John Ternus Laura Legros is the staffing move now being reported around Apple’s incoming chief executive: MacRumors, citing Bloomberg, says Ternus has rehired Legros, a former vice president of hardware engineering who retired from Apple in 2022. Apple has not confirmed the appointment in the material available, and no formal new title for Legros was reported.

According to MacRumors’ account of Bloomberg’s reporting, Legros will work across different parts of Apple and report directly to Ternus. That would put her in Ternus’ immediate organization as he prepares to take over as CEO.

The report describes Legros’ earlier work as overseeing product delivery, development schedules and coordination among engineering teams. Those are the reported responsibilities, rather than a description of any specific product program she will run on her return.

What role did Laura Legros previously have at Apple?

Legros was previously a vice president in Apple’s hardware engineering organization, according to MacRumors. Bloomberg, as relayed by MacRumors, characterized her as one of Ternus’ trusted deputies before her retirement.

She was also visible at Apple product events. MacRumors reported that Legros introduced the 2018 MacBook Air and the 2020 iPad Air. The reporting does not say whether she will again appear publicly for Apple, or which products or teams may fall within her new remit.

The move comes during Apple’s reported leadership handoff

MacRumors reported that Ternus is due to become Apple CEO on Sept. 1, 2026, with Tim Cook remaining at the company as executive chairman. Separately, AppleInsider reported that Johny Srouji, then senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, would become chief hardware officer and take on Ternus’ previous hardware engineering responsibilities.

That distinction matters. The report of Legros’ return describes a direct line to Ternus and work across Apple, while the separate leadership report places Srouji over the hardware portfolio Ternus formerly led. Neither account supplied a detailed organization chart or a definition of Legros’ future authority.

The available corroboration is thin. Daring Fireball linked to and quoted the same MacRumors item, rather than providing an independent account. Until Apple issues a statement or the original Bloomberg reporting is independently confirmed, the rehire should be treated as a reported personnel move, not an Apple-announced appointment.
