Ford and Lincoln are gradually adding the Ford AI Assistant tire pressure and fuel-level lookup to their mobile apps, putting a chat interface on top of data the connected vehicle already reports. The assistant is app-only at launch, so owners should not expect a new dashboard voice feature just yet.
Carscoops reports that the assistant can retrieve current fuel level, tire pressure and remaining oil-life information. The Verge separately reported that it can access vehicle-specific information such as fuel level, cargo capacity and towing capability. That makes it a conversational route to existing vehicle information, not a new set of sensors bolted onto the car.
Ford is releasing the feature in waves through the Ford and Lincoln apps. The company’s target is to make it available to 8 million Ford and Lincoln owners, The Verge reported, though Ford has not published supported models, trims, markets or eligibility rules in the material cited.
What can Ford’s AI Assistant do in the app?
According to The Verge, an owner can ask questions rooted in the vehicle’s manual, check capabilities such as cargo room or towing, and ask about potential service needs. Ford’s president of integrated services, Mike Aragon, told the publication the system can also provide live updates drawn from vehicle telemetry.
Ford says owners can upload photos and ask whether a vehicle can carry or tow a proposed load. The useful limit is obvious: the assistant can offer information based on the vehicle and the question, but owners remain responsible for following the relevant vehicle ratings and instructions.
The app-first approach also means the assistant reaches compatible existing owners without waiting for a vehicle software update, Ford told The Verge. Ford said the app assistant will initially be free, but did not commit to keeping it free once it is built into the vehicle operating system.
When will Ford’s AI Assistant be in the vehicle?
Ford plans a voice-powered version integrated into select vehicles in 2027, according to The Verge and Carscoops. Until then, Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience vehicles are expected to offer Google’s Gemini as an opt-in alternative to Google Assistant for functions such as navigation, text messages and media, The Verge reported.
Those are separate products. Gemini is Google’s assistant in Ford and Lincoln’s Digital Experience setup, while Ford’s own assistant is the company’s planned layer for vehicle-specific questions and, later, deeper in-car integration.
There is another easy naming trap. Ford Pro AI is a separate fleet-management tool within Ford Pro Telematics. Ford says that product handles business-fleet data including vehicle health, utilization and driver behavior. It is not the consumer Ford and Lincoln mobile-app assistant now rolling out to individual owners.
