Perplexity Personal Computer for Windows is rolling out today, bringing the company’s agent-style desktop tool to Microsoft’s operating system for paying Max and Enterprise Max customers. The pitch is blunt: let an AI assistant operate inside Windows, where many workers still keep files, spreadsheets, documents and the rest of the office sediment that web-only tools do not touch.
Perplexity said the Windows version can work across local files, Microsoft Office 365 and the web from one place. The company describes Personal Computer as a locally run AI system and a “general-purpose digital worker,” a phrase that should be read as a vendor claim, not a labor-law category.
The tool can access files and apps on a user’s machine and take actions for them, according to Perplexity. Examples the company gives include making documents and updating spreadsheets. That puts it closer to a desktop operator than a chatbot parked in a browser tab, assuming the software performs as advertised.

Personal Computer for Windows is available to Perplexity customers on its Max and Enterprise Max plans. Those subscription tiers start at $200 per month, according to the company.
Perplexity also made two safety and data-use claims around the launch. The company said Personal Computer for Windows does not train on company data. It also said the tool notifies users before sensitive actions, including sending emails or deleting files.
Those assurances matter because a desktop agent with access to local files and workplace apps has a different risk profile from a search assistant. A bad answer in a chat window is annoying. A bad action inside an email client, spreadsheet or file system can create work for humans with admin rights and regrets.
For now, the confirmed news is narrower than the sales pitch: Perplexity has extended Personal Computer from Mac to Windows, tied it to its high-priced paid plans, and says it can operate across local Windows work, Office 365 and the web while asking before sensitive actions.
