Bluesky hide reposts is now an account-level control: users can suppress reposts from a particular person in their feeds while continuing to follow that account. The change, reported August 10, gives people a narrower option than ending the follow altogether.
The setting addresses a familiar feed problem. An account may still be useful for its own posts, while its reposts fill the timeline with material a follower did not ask to see. Bluesky’s new control is limited, on the available evidence, to reposts in feeds. It does not establish what happens to that account’s original posts, replies, quote posts, notifications, search results, or any other surface.
How do you hide reposts from one Bluesky account?
Open the account’s Bluesky profile, select the three-dot menu, then choose “Hide reposts in feeds.” The Verge reported that path on August 10, and WeRSM separately reported that the feature lets people remove reposts from individual accounts without unfollowing them.
That distinction is the point. Unfollowing stops an account’s content from appearing through the follow relationship; this setting allows a user to retain the account while filtering one type of activity. The reports do not say whether the control applies across every available Bluesky feed, so users should read the option as it is labeled rather than assume more than “in feeds.”
A long-requested bit of feed plumbing
The capability has been on users’ wish lists for a while. A public feature request in Bluesky Social’s GitHub repository, opened in October 2023, asked for a way to stop seeing reposts from selected followed accounts while still seeing their own posts. A repository commenter marked the request solved on August 10, 2026 and linked to Bluesky’s announcement.
A GitHub request is not a survey, and it cannot tell us how widely the feature will be used. It does show that the exact problem predates this release by nearly three years. Sometimes the glamorous social-network feature is a menu item that lets people keep a contact without inheriting their entire forwarding habit.
Bluesky also adds thread numbers in beta
Separately, Bluesky said it is launching a beta option that automatically places post numbers in threads. Users can enable the thread-numbering setting in Bluesky’s settings, according to The Verge.
The two updates do different jobs. Repost hiding changes which redistributed posts a person sees from a chosen account. Thread numbering adds sequence markers to a thread, so readers can gauge its length and follow its order without the author manually numbering every post. Bluesky described that feature as beta, which means its status is distinct from the newly reported repost control.
- Go to the relevant account’s profile.
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Select “Hide reposts in feeds.”
- For thread numbering, check Bluesky settings and enable the beta option if available.
