Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold hands-on showing points to a familiar formula: the company has made its book-style foldable lighter and brighter, added a new main camera and faster wireless charging, then loaded it with software shared across the Pixel 11 range. Preorders opened August 12, according to Gizmodo and 9to5Google. The practical question for Pixel 10 Pro Fold owners is whether that package fixes the old phone’s bulk problem. Early reports suggest: only partly.
The handset weighs 239 grams, down from 258 grams for the previous model, and measures 10.1mm thick when folded, Engadget reports. It retains a 6.5-inch outer OLED screen and an 8-inch flexible inner OLED, while peak brightness rises to 3,600 nits. Android Central, via Yahoo Tech, also reported that hinge changes make the crease less visible than before. Neither publication’s brief hands-on constitutes a durability or long-term display test.
That weight reduction is real, but it does not make the Fold a lightweight. Engadget found it still notably thicker and heavier beside Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 models. Google has kept IP68 dust and water resistance, a rating Engadget says exceeds the IP48 rating on Samsung’s Z Fold 8 line. Google also says its new glass-fibre rear panel is nearly impossible to crack. That is a company claim, and Engadget did not attempt to break its demo unit, which is a sensible limit on a media briefing and a limit on the claim.
What is new on the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold?
- Processor: Tensor G6 powers the phone. Google says it can deliver up to 25% faster web browsing, 20% better power efficiency and 15% faster app loading; those figures have not been independently tested in the available early coverage.
- Cameras: A new 48-megapixel main sensor joins a 10.5-megapixel ultrawide and 10.8-megapixel 5x telephoto. The Fold remains limited to 30x Super Res Zoom rather than the 120x mode on Google’s other Pro phones, and it does not receive a new telephoto sensor, Engadget reports.
- Charging: Wired charging remains 30W. Qi 2.2 wireless charging rises to 25W from 15W on the prior model. Reports agree the battery capacity is lower than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s 5,015mAh, but they give conflicting new-capacity figures, so real battery life will need testing.
- Multitasking: Google’s Bubbles feature lets users run most apps in movable floating windows, with a small app switcher at the lower right. Engadget notes that Google still does not offer a permanently pinned taskbar like Samsung does on its Galaxy Fold devices.
HiLight LEDs can indicate calls and Gemini activation, but Engadget says text notifications are not supported at launch. Magic Capture, Camera Looks, Creator Suite and Gemini-related tools are also part of the package, though they are Pixel 11 family features rather than reasons to buy the Fold specifically.
The early verdict is less a rejection than a warning against mistaking iteration for reinvention. Buyers who prioritize Google’s camera software, large-screen multitasking and IP68 protection have meaningful additions to consider. Anyone waiting for a much thinner, lighter Fold, or a bigger foldable-only leap, should wait for full testing rather than take Google’s benchmark and toughness claims on faith.
