Techdirt ran substantially the same $80 promotion earlier, on August 6. The posts were affiliate commerce placements rather than a product launch or a review. Techdirt says its Deals Store is powered and curated by StackSocial, that it receives a portion of sales, and that the products are not editorial endorsements.
The one-cent gap does not make the $80 offer fraudulent. It does mean the available evidence does not support presenting it as a meaningful sale. Retail pricing moves around, and none of the supplied listings establishes a permanent best price.

Not based on the contemporaneous listings captured here. Techdirt advertised $80, while the separate retailer listing and Amazon each showed $79.99. The retailer page’s “0%” savings label is unusually direct: it treats $79.99 as the ordinary price rather than a markdown.
There was a lower historical offer. A PopSci page labeled as Stack Commerce sponsored content promoted the black Sound Spot II for $49.99 in June 2026, against a stated regular price of $79.99. That promotion is evidence that a lower price existed at that time, not evidence that it remains available. The page also warned that StackSocial prices can change.
