The SunFounder GalaxyRVR deal listed by StackSocial prices the build-it-yourself Arduino rover kit at $109.99, down from a stated $129.99, as of the retailer listing reviewed. StackSocial described that as 15% off and offered free shipping to the contiguous United States. The listing is a retail offer, not a lab test, and its price, shipping terms and availability can change.

Techdirt separately promoted the kit at $110 on September 10, 2026. Techdirt says its Deals Store is powered and curated by StackSocial, that it receives a portion of sales, and that featured products are not editorial endorsements.

What does the SunFounder GalaxyRVR kit include?

StackSocial describes GalaxyRVR as a Mars-rover-themed STEM kit compatible with Arduino Uno R3. Its listed hardware includes an aluminum-alloy chassis, a SunFounder R3 board, an ESP32 camera module, ultrasonic and infrared obstacle-avoidance modules, four RGB light strips, a servo, TT motor, solar panel and 18650 battery. The retailer lists first-person camera view, app control, lighting, voice control and obstacle avoidance among its functions.

The retailer gives the assembled unit's dimensions as 9.45 by 7.09 by 3.94 inches and its weight as 3.12 pounds. It recommends the kit for ages 15 and older, lists battery life at 130 minutes, and says charging can be done through its solar panel or a Type-C adapter. Those are seller-provided specifications and performance claims, rather than independently verified results.

The rover's six-wheel arrangement uses rocker-bogie suspension. NASA's technical paper on its Rocky IV prototype defines rocker-bogie as a two-link layout: a trailing rocker arm carries one wheel, while a two-wheel bogie pivots from the rocker. NASA said the configuration gives a vehicle terrain-following ability. That describes the suspension concept, not a promise that this consumer kit has NASA rover performance.

Can buyers program the GalaxyRVR?

SunFounder provides three documented routes into the project: a quick-start mode using its RoboPilot app or example code, programming through the Arduino IDE, and block-based Scratch programming. The company's documentation also includes assembly steps, firmware-update guidance and lessons covering the suspension, motors, movement, infrared and ultrasonic sensors, lighting, camera control and solar power.

For buyers who want to inspect the curriculum rather than take a marketing page's word for it, SunFounder's GalaxyRVR documentation lays out those paths and lessons. SunFounder characterizes its own camera and sensing features; those descriptions remain manufacturer claims.

What did an independent reviewer find?

A 2024 hands-on review by The Gadgeteer reported that the rover worked after assembly and credited the packaging, written instructions and assembly videos. The reviewer said the iOS and Android versions of the control app performed the same in their testing, with the rover creating its own Wi-Fi network for the connected phone or tablet.

The test also produced two useful limits. The reviewer encountered one episode of repeated Wi-Fi drops that they could not diagnose. They also found that obstacle avoidance generally worked in their use, but low objects could escape the sensors while still blocking the rover, causing it to tip over. Those are observations from one review, not a general verdict on the kit's reliability.
