The Atari ST Public Floppy Database can now be browsed, searched and downloaded through a public website, removing the previous need to access its catalog through a SidecarTridge Multi-device attached to an Atari ST-family computer. That gives owners of original machines and floppy-emulation hardware a more practical way to inspect what is in the collection before they start shuffling disk images around.
The site says its downloadable .ST images are intended for SidecarTridge hardware, Gotek-style floppy emulators and real floppies. It presents newer homebrew alongside older images preserved in crew collections. Tom's Hardware reported that the archive had originally been assembled for use through SidecarTridge's hardware interface.
What is in the Atari ST Public Floppy Database?
At the time checked, the database listed 3,306 archive entries, 43 recent additions and 3,349 loaded items in total. Those figures are a snapshot rather than a promise, since the catalog is being updated. Visitors can search by title, browse alphabetically and filter the results by labels.
The recent list includes disks from Silly Venture Summer Edition 2026 and Sommarhack 2026, plus homebrew titles including Space Zot for the Atari STE and CAVEY TAXI for the STE, marked as a work in progress. The catalog is therefore not frozen in amber, which is about the least useful state a retro-software archive can achieve.
Its public GitHub repository shows how those additions are handled. Disk-image files are stored externally, while the repository holds metadata. The project splits its full CSV catalog by the first letter of a disk's name so it can be easily parsed by the SidecarTridge Multi-device. A separate new-items CSV is sorted by recent additions and limited to 300 rows; when it reaches that limit, its oldest rows are removed.
How can people add Atari ST disk images?
The project accepts contributions through GitHub pull requests. A submission must include one .ST image, a name, a description and one of four listed types: CRACKTROS, DEMOS, HOMEBREW or INTROS. Multi-disk releases require a separate pull request for each disk. The repository's latest listed commit at the time checked, dated August 7, added a Silly Venture Summer Edition 2026 disk.
Users should not confuse this project with Floppyshop Online, a separate searchable Atari ST and Falcon public-domain-library project hosted through the Exxos Forum. They are different collections with different operators and catalog structures.
There is also a necessary rights caveat. The database's availability does not establish that every image in it is public domain or authorized for redistribution. The catalog makes images accessible; it does not settle the copyright status of individual disks.
