QIDI Plus5 3D printer review: a stronger large-format single-color machine

Early hands-on reviews find QIDI’s Plus5 improves capacity and high-temperature printing, while its multicolor add-on remains unproven.

Early hands-on coverage of the QIDI Plus5 3D printer review points to a meaningful overhaul of QIDI’s large enclosed printer, not a market-wide coronation. Reviews published August 5 describe a more capable successor to the Plus4 for makers who print large parts in ABS and other demanding filaments. The catch is familiar: the core machine has been tested; QIDI’s optional multicolor system has not earned the same confidence.

Tom’s Hardware lists the Plus5 at a $749 standalone MSRP, or $899 in a combo, with an August 5, 2026 release date. That standalone figure is $50 below the Plus4’s launch price, according to the publication, and $650 below the $1,399 price it cited for Bambu Lab’s H2S at the time. Price gaps are not print-quality tests, obviously, but they are relevant when the machine weighs 29 kg and needs a serious place to live.

What does the QIDI Plus5 add over the Plus4?

The new printer offers a 320 x 320 x 300 mm build volume. Tom’s Hardware says that is 20 mm more in each dimension than the Plus4, roughly 18% more total capacity, while the chassis remains close to its predecessor’s footprint. That extra room is practical for single-piece helmets, large costume components, prototypes and functional parts that would otherwise need seams or awkward placement on the bed.

The Plus5 uses a CoreXY motion system, where two fixed motors coordinate belt movement to position the toolhead across the X and Y axes. Tom’s Hardware reports a 9 mm 1.5GT belt, an X-axis linear rail, Y-axis linear rods, four Z-axis rods and dual lead screws. GamingTrend’s reviewer attributed cleaner output than the Plus4 to those revised motion components and the printer’s resonance calibration. That is a hands-on assessment, not independent lab certification.

For high-temperature work, the enclosed build area is the main event. M.M’s Prop Shop reported successful ABS helmet and multi-part staff prints after several hundred hours with the machine, and said the chamber heater appeared to maintain the heat needed for the latter job. The creator also said the Plus5 fixes a Plus4 design problem in which the bed could obstruct the chamber heater at full height. GamingTrend, after more than 100 hours, also praised the guided setup and calibration process.

Is the QIDI Plus5 a good multicolor printer?

There is not enough independent evidence to make that call. The toolhead includes a cutter, waste chute and nozzle wiper for use with the optional QIDI Box filament system, but Tom’s Hardware did not receive a QIDI Box for its review and said color swaps need to become more consistent. GamingTrend’s companion video described four-color testing as future work. M.M’s Prop Shop also warned that QIDI accessories have previously added problems rather than value.

The sensible early verdict is narrower than “best” without qualifiers. The Plus5 looks well suited to buyers who prioritize a large, enclosed, high-temperature printer for single-color parts. Buyers whose workflow depends on reliable multicolor output should wait for broader independent QIDI Box testing rather than paying for a promise bolted to an otherwise credible machine.
