The RAM Machine giveaway on Reddit is exactly the kind of PC mod that makes a spec sheet feel like a footnote: u/DaKrazyKid showed a mini-ITX gaming rig surrounded by 36 RAM sticks, with an actual Nvidia RTX 5060 and Intel Core Ultra 5 doing the work inside.
The builder said Valve’s Steam Machine inspired the project, specifically its 16GB memory configuration. Valve’s first Steam Machine batch is described as using one 16GB stick, with the company possibly changing to two 8GB sticks later. The RAM Machine responds with theatrical overkill: 16 RGB memory sticks are wired into the light show and controlled through SignalRGB.
The PC is being offered as a giveaway in the r/PcBuild subreddit. According to the Reddit post, entry requires leaving a comment. The post had more than 78,000 comments at the time Tom’s Hardware reported the count, so the odds are doing the usual giveaway thing: technically nonzero, spiritually rude.
What is the RAM Machine PC?
The RAM Machine is a custom mini-ITX gaming PC built to look like a shrine to desktop memory. Most of the visible RAM is decorative RGB hardware, while the real system memory is 32GB of Patriot DDR5-8200.
The rest of the parts list is more normal than the case suggests. The build uses an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, a single-fan Nvidia RTX 5060 graphics card, a 2TB Patriot SSD, a B860-I motherboard and a 750-watt power supply. That is not a halo desktop, but it is a credible compact gaming machine.
Tom’s Hardware estimated that a similarly configured mini-PC would cost more than $1,500 using PCPartPicker pricing. The site said that would make it about 50% more expensive than Valve’s Steam Machine. Based on the listed hardware, Tom’s Hardware assessed it as suitable for 1080p gaming and capable of handling some 1440p titles, while native 4K gaming would be a stretch.
Is SignalRGB involved in the giveaway?
The affiliation is not fully stated by the Redditor, according to Tom’s Hardware. The giveaway rules, however, include a disclaimer excluding SignalRGB employees, affiliates, subsidiaries, immediate family members and people living in the same household, which makes SignalRGB sponsorship look likely.
SignalRGB is the software used to control the lighting in the RAM Machine. The app is free for RGB control across hardware brands, and it also sells a Pro tier at $5.99 per month or $45 per year. Tom’s Hardware said the paid version adds features including cooling control, system monitoring and macros.
The company has been tied to similarly strange PC giveaways before. Tom’s Hardware previously reported on a microwave converted into an all-in-one PC and a Starfield-themed gaming PC built into a control panel case. The common thread is not subtle: oddball cases, lots of RGB and SignalRGB in charge of the lighting.
