The same claim says the chip had previously been discussed under the Ryzen 7 9755HX3D name, but that AMD may use 9800HX3D branding instead. That would put it closer in name to AMD’s desktop Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

On paper, the rumored 9800HX3D would sit below it: fewer cores, less cache, and a lower reported boost ceiling.
That positioning is the point. If the leak is accurate, laptop makers would get a gaming-focused X3D option that does not require stepping up to a 16-core flagship mobile CPU.
