Prime Video used San Diego Comic-Con to show the first Blade Runner 2099 teaser, giving the long-discussed TV continuation of Ridley Scott’s 1982 film and Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 sequel a concrete premiere date. The 10-episode series will arrive on Prime Video on November 25, 2026.
Michelle Yeoh stars as Olwen, described in the official synopsis as a Replicant who is close to death. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive who takes on one final identity: a Blade Runner. That pairing is the engine of the show, at least as Prime Video is pitching it: Cora and Olwen are forced to work together while pursuing a runaway who knows something dangerous enough to threaten Los Angeles.
What is Blade Runner 2099 about?
Blade Runner 2099 is set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, in a version of Los Angeles that has been remade after humanity lost its place at the top of the food chain. According to Prime Video’s synopsis, humans are no longer running the city, and the hunt at the center of the season could expose a truth capable of breaking its already unstable order.
Showrunner Silka Luisa, known for Shining Girls, appeared at the Comic-Con presentation with Yeoh and Schafer. Luisa told Entertainment Weekly that the series keeps the franchise’s noir structure and builds around a mystery that points both ahead and back through Blade Runner continuity. She also said the show imagines a future after an uprising in which humans lost and became hunted second-class citizens.
That is a sharp turn for a franchise built on the question of who gets counted as human, though Prime Video has not released the Comic-Con clip publicly. For now, the confirmed material is the teaser, the synopsis, the cast list, and Luisa’s broad description of the setup. The rest is trailer archaeology, which is fun but not evidence.
The cast also includes Hugo Hamlet as Buster Friendly. Dmitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi are also in the series, though Prime Video has not disclosed their roles.
What else did studios show at SDCC?
Prime Video also showed a teaser for season 3 of The Rings of Power, which premieres November 11, 2026. According to the official synopsis, the season jumps five years past the fall of Eregion, with Sauron’s armies advancing and Sauron working in Barad-dûr on the One Ring. New cast additions include Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, Zubin Varla as Khamul, Eddie Marsan as Thrain, Andrew Richardson as Anarion, Adam Young as Marnukh, and Simon Pegg as the voice of the Balrog.
HBO showed a fuller trailer for Lanterns, its DC series about John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, and Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler. HBO’s logline describes them as intergalactic cops investigating a murder in the American heartland. The show premieres August 18, 2026, on HBO Max.
Amazon MGM Studios also held a panel for Spaceballs: The New One, the sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 parody. Brooks returns as Yogurt through motion capture, with Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and George Wyner also returning. The film is scheduled for theaters on April 23, 2027.
