Mattress makers are using the Fourth of July to run discounts that WIRED’s Reviews team says rival some of the better non-Black Friday prices of the year. For shoppers, the useful part is less the holiday marketing and more the specifics: the roundup focuses on queen-size mattresses that WIRED reviewers say they have slept on and evaluated in their own homes.

WIRED says its mattress testing looks at long-term comfort, cooling, motion isolation and durability. All prices cited are for queen-size models. As ever with mattress sales, the sticker price is only half the story. Coupon codes, sale windows and bundled extras do a lot of the work, because apparently buying foam and coils now requires minor procurement skills.

Top tested deals

WIRED’s top overall pick is the Helix Midnight Luxe, listed at $1,874 after 25 percent off with code LUXE25. The team describes it as a medium-firm hybrid with zoned support coils and pressure relief aimed especially at side sleepers. Zoned coils vary support across the bed, so shoulders and hips can sink differently than the lower back.

The Bear Elite Hybrid is $1,485 after 35 percent off with code JULY35. WIRED says multiple reviewers with back issues, including scoliosis, spondylosis, sciatica and chronic pain, reported that its zoned coil system and quilted pillow top gave support without leaving shoulders and hips sore. That is reviewer experience, not medical advice.

Nolah’s Evolution is $1,480 after a 35 percent site-wide discount. WIRED says the mattress combines zoned foam with pocketed coils, a construction meant to cushion side sleepers while making it easier to roll over than on some softer foam beds. Pocketed coils move more independently than a single coil grid, which can reduce partner disturbance.

The Purple Mattress is $1,449, a $150 discount. WIRED reviewer Kat Merck said she liked the original Purple’s GelFlex grid, a squishy polymer layer that creates airflow and a different feel from memory foam, though she found its 9-inch height low on a low-profile bed frame. WIRED also cautions that this is not the lowest Purple price it has seen.

Organic, latex and customizable options

Avocado’s Green Mattress is $2,039 after 15 percent off. WIRED identifies it as one of its long-running organic mattress picks, with a hybrid build and individually wrapped coils. WIRED operations manager Scott Gilbertson reported little sagging or wear after nearly three years of use.

Naturepedic’s EOS Classic Organic Mattress is $3,039 after 20 percent off with code JULY4. WIRED highlights its modular latex layers, which can be swapped to adjust firmness. Each side can be configured separately, and the company offers free latex-layer exchanges during the first 100 nights. The sale also includes a free muslin blanket with qualifying mattress purchases.

Birch’s Luxe Natural is $1,968 after 25 percent off with code LUXE25. WIRED says it uses organic latex, wool and individually wrapped coils, with wool serving both as a breathable material and a natural fire retardant.

Essentia’s Tatami Organic is $2,849 after 25 percent off. WIRED calls it a vegan organic option, using an organic latex support core without springs or animal-derived materials. The sale runs through July 13, with a free gift on qualifying mattress purchases through July 4.
