Apple’s pricier tablet lineup has a few dents in it this week, at least at retail. After The Verge reported last month that several Apple products had become more expensive, Amazon and Best Buy are offering discounts on two higher-end iPad configurations.
The biggest iPad Pro cut listed is at Amazon, where the 13-inch iPad Pro with Apple’s M5 chip, Wi-Fi, and 512GB of storage is priced at $1,549.99. The listed retail price is $1,699, putting Amazon’s discount at about $150.
Best Buy is also discounting the same 512GB Wi-Fi model, listing it for $1,599. That is $100 below the same $1,699 retail price.
The 13-inch iPad Pro M5 is Apple’s top iPad line. The model includes an OLED display, Apple’s M5 processor, support for charging at up to 60W, and compatibility with Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard, according to The Verge. That makes the deal relevant mostly to buyers already shopping near the expensive end of the tablet rack, not anyone hoping Apple suddenly remembered budget pricing exists.
Best Buy has a steeper cut on the 11-inch iPad Air with Apple’s M3 chip. The configuration on sale includes 1TB of storage, Wi-Fi, and 5G cellular support, and Best Buy lists it at $749. The suggested retail price is $1,249, a $500 reduction.
The Verge notes that the M3 chip is older than Apple’s newer M4 iPad Air, but the storage gap is the point of the sale: this discounted M3 model has 1TB, while the base M4 version cited by The Verge has 128GB and costs $40 less. Best Buy is listing the discounted M3 model in blue, purple, space gray, and starlight.
