The Samsung G50SF QD-OLED, a 27-inch 1440p gaming monitor, is down to $299.99 at Amazon after a $50 discount. That price is the point: The Verge reports that solid QD-OLED gaming displays are now easy enough to find below $500, but still uncommon below $300.
Samsung launched the G50SF at $499.99, according to The Verge. The monitor has moved between $350 and $450 over the past six months, making this Amazon listing a sharper cut than the usual drip-feed discounting that passes for PC hardware dealmaking.
Is the Samsung G50SF QD-OLED worth $299.99?
On the published specs, Samsung is not gutting the basics to hit the price. The G50SF has a thin design, variable refresh rate support, and a 0.03-millisecond response time, the kind of response figure The Verge says is expected from these panels.
The trade-off is refresh rate. The monitor reaches 180Hz over DisplayPort and 144Hz over HDMI, so buyers hunting specifically for 240Hz or faster should look elsewhere. For everyone else, 180Hz is still well beyond what most non-esports setups need, and it keeps the deal from looking like a spec-sheet crime scene.
Port selection is also a little narrower than some rivals. The G50SF includes DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0, and a headphone jack. The Verge notes that many competing monitors include two HDMI ports, so console-plus-PC setups may require more cable swapping than buyers would like.
The price also puts Samsung below Alienware’s AW2726DM, which The Verge describes as a $350 QD-OLED competitor. The Samsung model is cheaper, though the Alienware comparison depends on what a buyer values most: refresh rate, inputs, design, and the actual street price on the day they click buy.
