The SDCC 2026 trailers slate leaned hard into cyberpunk and sci-fi, with first looks at Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099 and Apple TV’s Neuromancer leading a weekend of streaming and movie reveals. San Diego Comic-Con also produced casting news from Marvel, plus dates for God of War: Laufey and the final season of Silo, according to The Verge.
Marvel used the convention to reveal Ryan Gosling as the next Ghost Rider and David Jonsson as the next Black Panther, The Verge reported. Sony Santa Monica posted that God of War: Laufey is due February 16th, while the fourth and final season of Silo is slated for summer 2027.
What trailers were shown at SDCC 2026?
Blade Runner 2099 finally moved from long-promised franchise extension to footage people could actually inspect. The Verge reported that Amazon first disclosed the project in 2022. The limited series is set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049 and stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer as a blade runner and a replicant who have to work together. All episodes are scheduled to stream November 25th.
Apple TV also brought Neuromancer, an adaptation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk novel. The series stars Callum Turner as what the show describes as “a damaged, top-rung super-hacker,” according to The Verge, and begins streaming January 22nd. For viewers who use “cyberpunk” to mean more than neon and wet streets, Neuromancer is one of the load-bearing texts of the genre: Gibson’s novel helped define the idea of hackers, corporations and virtual space colliding in a grimy near future.
Apple TV’s Dark Matter also returned with a season 2 trailer. The new season starts August 28th, and The Verge described the footage as pushing further into its multiverse story, with a family searching for safety across infinite worlds.
Amazon brought horror and fantasy dates too
Amazon’s horror push includes Carrie, a series from Mike Flanagan based on Stephen King’s novel. Flanagan previously made The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher for Netflix before Amazon signed him, The Verge reported. Carrie begins streaming October 7th. Flanagan has adapted King before, including Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck.
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to return for season 3 on November 11th. The new season adds Simon Pegg as the voice of a Balrog, the demonic creature from Tolkien’s fantasy mythology, according to The Verge.
Animation, DC and A24 filled out the lineup
Futurama’s latest run continues with season 14, due August 3rd on Disney Plus and Hulu. The Verge reported that the new trailer includes material ranging from pop stars to vampires.
Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects is also coming back. Season 2 is expected in 2027, after a first season that The Verge said combined striking animation with a story about dangers in the US healthcare system.
HBO showed Lanterns, a DC series starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as intergalactic investigators. The show follows the pair as they examine a murder and get pulled into an Earth-based mystery with cosmic connections, according to The Verge. It premieres August 16th.
A24’s Onslaught, from Adam Wingard, is headed to theaters September 4th. Wingard directed the last two Godzilla vs. Kong films. The new movie follows a mother trying to shield her daughter from a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers.
The Anne Rice series formerly known as Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat is returning as Queen of the Damned, introducing Akasha, the vampire progenitor. No premiere date has been announced, according to The Verge. Separately, the animated Transformers: The Movie is getting a 40th anniversary 4K theatrical re-release on September 17th.
