SwitchBot is releasing the SwitchBot Fan 2 Pro, a $119.99 battery-powered circulator fan with native Matter-over-Wi-Fi support, longer claimed air throw and a larger battery than the model it replaces. The useful part for smart-home people is prosaic but real: SwitchBot says the fan can join a compatible smart home without requiring a separate SwitchBot Hub.
The full product name is the SwitchBot Battery Circulator Fan 2 Pro. According to SwitchBot, the new model drops the height-adjustable stand found on another SwitchBot circulator design and aims instead at portability: medium-sized rooms, balconies and family tents are the stated use cases. That is fan marketing, yes, but it lines up with the hardware choices: a compact body, a built-in battery and USB-C power support.
What does Matter support mean for the SwitchBot fan?
Matter is the smart-home standard meant to let devices work across compatible platforms instead of being trapped inside one vendor’s app. In this case, SwitchBot says native Matter-over-Wi-Fi lets the Fan 2 Pro connect directly to a smart-home setup without a separate SwitchBot Hub sitting around as another plastic intermediary.
SwitchBot lists a 3,600mAh battery inside the Fan 2 Pro. The company claims up to 70 hours of cordless operation at low speed, where it rates the noise level at 21dB. Running the fan at maximum speed cuts that figure to four hours, according to the company. Users can extend operation by plugging it into a USB-C power bank or a larger portable power station.
The airflow numbers are where SwitchBot is trying to justify the “Pro” suffix. The company says the Fan 2 Pro reaches a maximum wind velocity of 6.5 meters per second, or 21.3 feet per second, and can throw air 33.5 meters, or 110 feet. SwitchBot says those are the highest wind-speed and longest throw-distance figures in its fan lineup to date.
Air volume is less clean-cut. The Fan 2 Pro is rated at 477 CFM, below the 489 CFM rating of the original Battery Circulator Fan it replaces. It still sits above the Standing Circulator Fan’s 323 CFM figure, according to the comparison figures reported by The Verge’s Thomas Ricker.
The fan can oscillate continuously 90 degrees vertically and 90 degrees horizontally, which is the mechanism that lets it push air up, across and around a room rather than acting like a desk fan pointed at one unlucky chair. SwitchBot also says the blades, filter and front and rear housing can be removed for cleaning. An integrated nightlight is included.
Where will the SwitchBot Fan 2 Pro be sold?
Availability is limited to North America at launch, according to The Verge. A UK and European version is planned for later, with one hardware difference: SwitchBot’s regional model will include a built-in negative ion generator, which the company says is designed to reduce airborne dust and static electricity.
