Trump Media and Technology Group plans to sell faster access to posts on Truth Social, turning presidential posts that can jolt financial markets into a licensed data product.
NBC News reported that the company, which runs Truth Social, is preparing a product called Truth API. A company spokesperson told NBC the feed will deliver posts from the platform’s 10 most influential accounts faster than ordinary Truth Social push notifications.
The pitch is not subtle. Trump Media said the product is aimed at organizations “most impacted by the cost of a delay in information,” including algorithmic trading firms, according to NBC. In practice, that means customers would pay for a cleaner, faster machine-readable feed rather than waiting for app alerts, manual monitoring, or public reposts to catch up.
For a trading desk, the mechanism is straightforward. If a post from President Donald Trump moves a stock, sector, currency, or commodity, a faster feed can give automated systems a chance to react before slower market participants. The company is selling speed around posts it says markets already react to.
Kevin McGurn, Trump Media’s interim chief executive, told NBC that “markets already move on Truth Social posts” and said the company expects Truth API to become a recurring source of revenue as usage grows.
A data business built on political power
Trump Media described the product as its first move into data licensing, NBC reported. Social platforms and data companies often sell API access for analytics, research, moderation tools, compliance systems, and financial feeds. The unusual part here is the identity of the account that gives the feed much of its value: Trump is both president of the United States and closely tied to the platform selling access.
The plan lands amid broader scrutiny of Trump’s ability to benefit financially while in office. PBS NewsHour has reported on questions around Trump’s income during his presidency. CNN recently reported on trading activity involving stocks later promoted on Truth Social, describing concerns that posts from Trump could affect market prices.
Those reports do not establish that Truth API itself is unlawful. They do show why a paid low-latency feed of presidential posts is politically radioactive. Trump Media is not only monetizing social media engagement. It is offering paying customers a faster route to statements from a sitting president that the company itself says can move markets.
The company’s stated customer base sharpens the issue. Algorithmic trading firms care about delay because financial markets reward speed. A few seconds, and in some systems much less, can decide whether a model buys before or after a price moves. Truth API packages that timing advantage as a product.
Trump’s critics have long pointed to earlier presidential conflict-of-interest norms, including Jimmy Carter’s decision to sell his peanut business before taking office. Trump has taken a different path, keeping political power and personal commercial interests in close contact. Truth API would put a price on faster access to the kind of presidential speech that traders already watch.
