404 Media said it will mark its third anniversary with two separate New York events in September: a live program at WNYC’s Greene Space and a party the following night at Threes Brewing Gowanus.

The publication said the first event, called 404 Media Live, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3. It will include a live podcast taping and talks about the outlet’s past year and its plans for what it describes as independent, human-made journalism.

404 Media said Matthew Gault will appear for a conversation about resistance to AI data centers. Becky Ferreira of The Abstract is also scheduled to discuss science stories from earlier in the year.

The second event is set for Friday, Sept. 4, at Threes Brewing Gowanus. 404 Media described it as a third-anniversary party with an open bar serving beer, wine, and seltzer, plus light food during the event.

Ticket details

404 Media said paid supporters receive discounted or free access, depending on the event. Supporters get 50% off a full-price in-person ticket to the Sept. 3 live event. The outlet said people who cannot attend in New York can buy livestream access and will receive a link by email before the event.

For the Sept. 4 party, 404 Media said supporters get in free. People who buy a ticket to the Sept. 3 live event receive 50% off a ticket to the Friday party, according to the outlet.

Tickets for the live event are available through Eventbrite. Tickets for the anniversary party are also listed on Eventbrite.

404 Media told supporters to check their membership status through its membership page and said promo codes are available at the bottom of the announcement page for eligible members. The outlet listed [email protected] for questions.

Sam, Emanuel, Jason, and Joseph, the publication’s named staff in the announcement, said they will attend the anniversary events. The pitch is pretty direct: subscribers helped fund the operation for another year, so the newsroom is inviting them into a room rather than pretending community is a dashboard metric.
