LinkedIn adds an AI slop button for reporting suspicious posts

LinkedIn users can now flag posts that “seem like AI slop,” a feed control spotted by 404 Media amid rising AI-generated posts.

LinkedIn has added a “Seems like AI slop” option for reporting posts, according to tests by 404 Media. The LinkedIn AI slop button appears in the three-dot menu on individual posts and gives users a direct way to tell the company that a post looks like low-quality automated content.

404 Media said selecting the option produced a confirmation message from LinkedIn saying the feedback would help improve the feed. The reported post was then hidden from view. LinkedIn did not immediately respond to 404 Media’s request for comment about the feature.

The wording is unusually blunt for a large social platform. “AI slop” has become shorthand for generic, automated, low-effort material produced or assisted by generative systems. LinkedIn’s choice of that label suggests the company knows exactly what users are complaining about, even if it has not publicly described how the new control changes ranking or moderation decisions.

What does the LinkedIn AI slop button do?

The button lets a user flag a post as looking like AI-generated spam or low-quality automated writing. Based on 404 Media’s test, LinkedIn acknowledges the report, uses it as feed feedback, and hides the post for that user.

The new option lands after months of complaints that LinkedIn feeds have filled with templated posts: spaced-out one-line paragraphs, tidy lists of lessons, motivational framing, emoji-littered takeaways, and familiar large language model rhythms. Earlier this month, 404 Media reported data from AI detection company Pangram estimating that 41 percent of long-form LinkedIn posts and 30 percent of short-form LinkedIn posts were likely AI-generated. 404 Media disclosed that Pangram had previously advertised on its site. Those figures are estimates from a detection service, not LinkedIn’s own numbers, so they should be read as a measurement claim rather than a platform admission.

There is an awkward policy split here. LinkedIn has its own generative AI tools, including a writing assistant that its help page says can provide “personalized suggestions” for a profile. The company also tells users it wants professional conversations from real people, which becomes harder to square with feed posts that look machine-produced from the first line.

When 404 Media previously asked about Pangram’s findings, LinkedIn pointed to a May policy change aimed at reducing low-quality automated or generic content. In that statement, the company said professionals come to LinkedIn for real people’s views and that it works to reduce lower-quality automated material, while allowing that AI may help users get past a blank page.

The open question is whether the new reporting option meaningfully changes distribution or mainly improves each user’s feed. LinkedIn has confirmed through the interface that the feedback matters to the feed, according to 404 Media’s test. It has not said whether repeated “AI slop” reports can demote a post broadly, affect an account, or train detection systems.
