Meta said on October 13 that it is rolling out Facebook Your Algorithm AI controls for Feed and Reels, giving users a new way to tell the company which topics they want to see. The feature offers more direct input into the recommendation system that determines the posts and videos Facebook puts in front of a user.

Meta calls the feature “Your Algorithm.” It sits in the three-dot menu on posts, where users can add and manage topics for Feed and Reels. The company has also changed that menu to surface the new controls more readily.

The announcement is a rollout notice, not a promise of a fully hand-configurable feed. Meta did not specify which countries or users will get the feature first, which languages it will support, or when the rollout will finish.

How do Facebook’s Your Algorithm controls work?

Users can mark a post as “Interested” or “Not interested.” Meta says it may then ask follow-up questions about the selection, allowing users to describe in their own words what they want more or less of. The company says recommendations can update in real time and may adapt within the same session.

Those are Meta’s performance claims. The company says large language models help its ranking systems interpret the interests, context and intent in natural-language feedback, alongside the signals it already uses to rank Feed and Reels. Meta has not provided technical detail on how much weight a topic request receives compared with other ranking inputs.

In practical terms, the tool is a feedback channel for influencing recommendations. The evidence available does not show that users can replace Facebook’s ranking system, set a complete ranking formula, or force every requested topic into the feed.

How is Your Algorithm different from existing Facebook settings?

Facebook already offers several ways to alter what appears in Feed. Its Help Center says users can select “Not Interested” on a post to see fewer posts, or unfollow a person, Page or group to stop seeing its posts. Meta’s Transparency Center says “Interested” and “Not Interested” can temporarily increase or decrease what a user sees in Feed.

Other existing controls include settings for political and sensitive content, Favorites, Reconnect and Snooze. Favorites lets users prioritize selected people and Pages, placing their posts higher in Feed, according to Facebook’s Help Center.

Your Algorithm adds topic management and possible free-form follow-up feedback to that set of controls. Meta frames the change as a more conversational way to communicate preferences to its recommendation systems. Whether the company’s claimed real-time adjustments consistently produce more relevant results will depend on the rollout and on how Facebook applies that feedback in practice.

Meta previously introduced a feature with the same name on Instagram, according to The Verge. Facebook’s version applies to both the main Feed and Reels.
